COLLECTION 03: PIPILOTTI RIST
Grossmut begatte Mich
curator: Lorenzo Benedetti
17 September - 2 October, 2011
From 17 September through to 2 October 2011 the Foundation for Visual Arts Middelburg (Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg) will present Grossmut begatte Mich by Piilotti Rist at the Vleeshal.
In 1996, De Vleeshal had been the first arts institution to acquire one of Rist’s works: Grossmut begatte Mich was presented in De Vleeshal, in 2000.
In Grossmut begatte mich De Vleeshal becomes a projection screen. Images will be projected on the rear and right-hand walls of the hall, where the typically Gothic niches and sculptures made the projection appear relieved.
The images projected are fragments of music videos, mixed with images reflecting Rist’s own perception of her environment. Accompanied by music by Chris Isaak, the images passing by are pervaded by an unabashedly girlish, almost sloppy sentimentality. (Lex ter Braak)
