The Egyptians divided the day to 12 parts as early as 1500 BC. The Greeks added another 12 to count the hours of the night.
Without artificial light, humans of an older time period regarded sunlit and dark periods as two opposing realms rather than as part of the same day. Once both the light and dark hours were divided into 12 parts, the concept of our time could emerge.
The study-project Timeout is playing with to the tension between time and space. The subjective perception of these phenomena are explored by the artists who present their own views on a cosmic order and the human attempts to observe, explain and structure our role in it. Timeout is an invite to stop and think for a moment where we are and what we are doing.
This is the 24th and last exhibition of Artnews Projects. *
