Michael Rakowitz's new project investigates the influence of western science fiction and fantasy on Iraqi military and scientific activities during the Saddam era. It reveals the hidden links between Saddam's vision, Star Wars, Jules Verne and GI Joe. Shown for the first time in the UK, The worst condition is to pass under a sword which is not one's own is the latest in the Level 2 Gallery series, Tate Modern's dedicated strand for emerging art.

The Level 2 Gallery programme has been made possible with the generous support of Catherine Petitgas
