The Piano Player Rolls reference a key moment in which the production of
artillery and musical instruments became driven by automated technologies. The
hand punched scores are drawn from three pertinent cityscapes that further
develop the relationship between technology and human culture. Their patterns
create a melancholic sound that is informed by the tension between abstract
musical form and the historical context of the work.
